NAUNDERO: Independent candidate for PS-10, advocate Muhammad Bachal Mangi, along with his supporters and citizens, on Sunday held a protest against SEPCO over prolonged load shedding in Naundero.
The protesters organised a large rally and marched through various roads after which they held a sit-in in front of the local press club. They also chanted slogans against SEPCO officials, while they also burnt an effigy of SEPCO Naundero Sub-Divisional Officer Sajad Memon.
Speaking to media, the protesters alleged that all meter holders are being illegally sent additional detection bills, ranging from Rs5000 to 40,000 monthly, which is unjust and beyond the reach of consumers who pay their bills monthly.
They said that recovery of city feeder-1 is shown in city feeder-2 since last six months which also unveils the corrupt practices of the concerned officials. They claimed that SEPCO authorities are themselves involved in massive corruption which has never been investigated.
The demonstrators said that during on-time, electricity is put off after every 30 minutes by grid station incharge, adding that cellular number of SDO is always either switched-off or he does not attend calls.
It was further said that there is no complaint cell in the SDO office and the phone number is dysfunctional since years. All faults are removed after payment of huge amounts, they further alleged. They also warned to hold future protests if outage is not reduced.
On the other hand, Larkana Executive Engineer, Grids, Abdul Haq Siyal told newsmen that 4th feeder has been created in Naundero where electricity load has not yet been shifted by operation sub-division officials due to which both city feeders remain overloaded and the supply is tripped automatically.
He defended his Naundero grid staff saying that it is not their fault but the responsibility lies with the operation staff. Asked as to how uninterrupted supply was made on the directives of the federal government during last Eid holidays, he said load remained low and divided due to closure of bazaars and markets.
Daily Times reached out to SDO Sajad Memon, but he neither attended any call nor called back.
The citizens have demanded the higher authorities to look into the matter and order reduction in load shedding schedule in this scorching hot weather.
